Scrap certificates: buy one, pay less road tax on your new vehicle

A Certificate of Deposit from a vehicle scrapping facility gets a new vehicle a road-tax concession and its registration fee waived. Owners who won't buy a new vehicle sell theirs here; you pay into escrow, the certificate is transferred to you on VAHAN, and only then is the seller paid.

How it works

  1. A seller lists a certificate. We check it on VAHAN before it goes live.
  2. You pay into escrow and tell the seller the name and mobile to transfer it to.
  3. The seller transfers it to you on VAHAN within 72 hours of the sale.
  4. You confirm it arrived, and the seller is paid. If it doesn't arrive, you're refunded.

Questions

What is a scrappage Certificate of Deposit?

The certificate a Registered Vehicle Scrapping Facility (RVSF) issues when a vehicle is handed over for scrapping. It's recorded on VAHAN and can be transferred to someone else.

What does it save on a new vehicle?

A new vehicle registered against a Certificate of Deposit gets a road-tax concession — under the central rules up to 25% for a personal vehicle and up to 15% for a commercial one, as your state applies them — and its registration fee waived. Check your state's concession before you buy.

How is the certificate handed over?

After you pay, you tell the seller the name and mobile number to transfer it to, and the seller transfers it to you on VAHAN. You confirm it arrived, and only then is the seller paid.

What if the seller doesn't transfer it?

Your payment is held in escrow. If the certificate isn't transferred within 72 hours, or isn't what the listing said, you're refunded to your Vendeye wallet.

How do I sell mine?

List it with the certificate number, the facility that issued it and your price. We check it on VAHAN before it goes live. When it sells you transfer it to the buyer on VAHAN, and you're paid once they confirm — the price less Vendeye's 5% commission.
