Which CPU should you buy?

For gaming, a mid-range chip and a better GPU beats a flagship chip and a weaker one — at 1440p and above the graphics card decides your frame rate, not the processor.

CPU questions, answered

Which CPU is best for gaming in India in 2026?

For most gaming PCs, the AMD Ryzen 5 7600 (about ₹18,500) or the Intel Core i5-14400F (about ₹16,800). At 1440p and above the graphics card decides your frame rate, so a mid-range processor with a better GPU beats a flagship processor with a weaker one. For the highest frame rates, AMD's X3D chips lead: the AMD Ryzen 7 7800X3D (about ₹34,500) and the AMD Ryzen 7 9800X3D (about ₹48,500).

AMD or Intel for a gaming PC?

At the entry level either is fine: the AMD Ryzen 5 7600 is slightly ahead in games, and the Intel Core i5-14400F is often cheaper on offer. Higher up, AMD's X3D processors are the fastest gaming CPUs you can buy, because the extra cache stacked on the chip is what games benefit from most.

How much of a gaming PC budget should go on the CPU?

Less than on the graphics card. In our 1440p build the processor is about ₹34,500 and the GPU about ₹62,000, out of roughly ₹1,56,100: the GPU decides the frame rate, so it gets the money first.

Do I need to buy a CPU cooler separately?

Check the box before you buy: several of these processors, including the X3D chips, ship without a cooler. Our builds pair them with the Thermalright Peerless Assassin 120 SE (about ₹3,400), which out-cools coolers several times its price.

Are these CPU prices live?

No. We have no live price feed for PC components, so each figure is a street-price estimate from August 2026. Tap a retailer for today's price, which is the one that counts.
